2.) The word prejudice means to judge someone before you get to know them. Yes, I witness predjudice alot. Especially during the summer, when I get on the bus. People yell “HEY GINGER!” like if they think having red hair is wrong. I feel bad when someone does this it makes me feel un-wanted and not liked. Yes, I hear classmates use racial and sexual slurs all the time… Every day actually. In class if someone does harrass someone I would tell them to stop… But alot of times its just friends poking fun at their friends.

3.) I live on Main street, Its really busy. My house is 4-5 houses down from Dairy Mart. There is an ugly house across the street. There used to be a scary looking tree in their front yard. I used to think it was haunted by a ghost that wanted to eat me.(when I was little) When I would go to bed I would roll over…and there it was staring at me with (what looked like) hungy eyes. I didnt have any friends that lived next door. So it was just me and my sis playing together if we couldnt go to someones house. About a year ago the tree was cut down. Im kinda glad it was because I still thought it looked creepy, but I wasnt scared of it anymore.

4.) Empathy is like feeling sorry for someone. But, its also more than that. Its putting yourself in someones shoes, and seeing their story from their point of view… Realizing how it must’ve felt like for that person, and connecting your life to the others and saying “Wow, I had to go through that before.” “It was horrible” Then in your heart, you wish them for the best… and pray everything turns out allright for them.

My Sister and I

Some of you know that I have a twin, her name is Alissa. My sister is truly an amazing person. Through the hard times we support each other no matter what happens. We stand up for each other and usually always help each other. We fight alot, but in the end we always end up forgiving each other. Alissa and I both believe that its our job as twins to argue. In many ways she is my best friend. We share many memories with each other.

We went to Disney World in fourth grade and had a blast. In fifth grade we went to Las Vegas. It was really hot. We walked around and went to lots of shows. Even though it was really hot we still had fun. Our mom also took us to the beach alot. We usually didn’t do anything special. Just walk around the beach and hang out. My sis would also join me when I played my electric guitar, she would play her bass. The best memories we share are when we just hang out and we are goofing around and not doing anything special.

But not all of our memories are happy. In eighth grade our dad took us to Mt. Piskah. On our way back to the car my dad got mad at Alissa and grabbed her by the neck and started shaking her and yelling at her. He was shaking her with so much force it scared me speechless. For me time stopped. I felt like everything except my dad and Alissa were moving in slow motion. I remember how powerless I felt. Then I heard her crying, which caused me to get extremely angry. I felt as if I could feel my rage flowing through me. I managed to yell at the top of my lungs “STOP NOW!” “YOUR GONNA HURT HER!” He stopped and let go of Alissa. She ran away and my dad’s gaze snapped towards me. I’ve never felt so enraged in my whole life. He glared at me through his sun glasses, which made him look evil. After a few seconds of us glaring at each other I ran after my sister. We called our mom who called the cops. The paramedics said Alissa had suffered from a whiplash. She had to go through years of physical therapy. I supported her through the whole thing.

Now when I look back the thing that stands out the most is my dad glaring at me through his sun glasses… His evil sun sunglasses. Even though this is a terrible memory, it has brought Alissa and I more closely together. More than any memory I know of.

#4 Text messaging… Does it help or hinder student writing?

I love text messaging. Its a quick way to chat w/ your friends. If im not grounded i usually send about 75-100 texts a day. I text about 12 different people a day. Theres a difference, my schoolwriting ang my texting. Sure i abbreviate whenever I can with both. Texting doesnt have any effect on my school writing because if i write in text language i know very few teachers(if any) will understand it. I think text messaging has its place in every part of the world(except when theres no service) Texting hasnt really changed the way we speak. The phone commercials about texting make it look ridiculous.Ex: “I D K MY B F F JILL”(i dont know my best friend forever Jill)
Texting has taught me to abbreviate more in my notes. My personal belief is that people who refer to this kind of stuff as EVIL is why we have whackos in the world that blame the worlds problems on technology. Like when some paranoid mom says that “I bet that kid played violent videogames. Thats why he shot that guy” COME ON lets all stop blaming things and take responsibility for our actions!!! Or at least realize that there are indeed some “messed up people in the world.” But thats No reason to start pointing fingers. Thats just like people saying “Oh it was the gun that shot those poor people. Not the shooter.” COUGH, cough… You gotta be kidding me!!! Sorry to tell you honey but… GUNS DONT SHOOT THEMSELVES. But back to the texting topic i believe texting is perfectly fine. But… it was that kids fault for not using “proper english” on his papers. Im gonna stop typing now. OMG! My fingers hurt. CUL8R!!! Lol. :P

What i learned from reading The Green Mile was that even the justice system can make mistakes. You dont really hear about the justice system making huge mistakes any more.(except the duke lacross case) But in this book there are a few huge mistakes. It also proves to me(again) how wrong racism is, and people labeling you just by the way you look/talk/or what you believe in is wrong. Even though people do it every day at school. Which is something we all need to work on.

#2 Blogs? What’s a Blog?

Blogs are a way for people to comunicate on the internet. Ive heard of blogs from people at school talking about sites like myspace and facebook. Im horrible w/ computers but im cofortable using them. I usually just use computers for homework and my ipod. I dont really care for writing, i usually try to write songs and do my homework. Parents are paranoid about their kids using the internet because they are worried that they might talk to a “wierd” person or look up bad stuff. I think the internet can be dangerous if someone uses it the wrong way. My friends use the internet to go on i-tunes and go on myspace. I think using blogs in class is a great idea, and im looking forward to blogging more.

The book i just finished was The Green Mile by Steven King. It was a really good book. Its about Cold Mountain “death row” supervisor and his life afterwards. Around the 1920s/the deppression and also when electric chair was still legal, which the prison guards call “Ol’ Sparky”. And the mental/physical challenges he and his fellow co-workers have to face while doing his job. Its a great book. you should check it out.(You shouldnt read it if you get grossed out easily…Reader’s discretion is advised)
